History:
The basic BJ212 is a 4-wheel drive
vehicle of the 0.5-ton class. The design is very similar to that
of the russian jeep UAZ-469B. The BJ-212 is used as a light tactical
transportation vehicle for commanders or liason officers, small
troop carrier or as a platform for lightweight weapons. The BJ212
has 5 seats whereas the BJ212A has a longer body for 7 soldiers.
The BJ212/A series was developed in the 1970s and has been in
service with the PLA for more than 30 years. Altogether more than
500,000 units of this lightweight vehicle have been delivered
to various military and civil services. There are many variants
in field service, like command and control vehicles, troop carriers,
communications vehicles, artillery observer vehicles, anti-NBC
vehicles, electronic warfare vehicles and the anti-tank gun carriers
with a 105 mm recoilless anti-tank gun mounted.
