History:
This 4x4 truck is used by many
countries of the formerly Eastern Bloc and was also exported to
Angola, Cambodia, China, Cuba, Egypt, Finland, Iran, Iraq and
Syria. It replaced the GAZ-63. The truck has a weapon mount on
the cabin's roof, but normally there is no weapon attached. The
body of the GAZ-66 is made of welded steel-plates, with fixed
sides and a drop tailgate. A canvas tarpaulin covers the cargo/passenger
area. Most of the GAZ-66s have a front-mounted winch. Some variants
have a hard-bodied cargo area for use as repair, communications,
or command vehicles.
