History:
In 1980 China and France signed the agreement of assembling 50 Dauphin 2 multi-purposes helicopters. The first helicopter, now designated Z-9 (Zhisheng-9), rolled out in the following year.
The Z-9 is a medium weight multipurpose twin-engine helicopter. The Z-9 is the military version of the Dauphin series. It is a complete redesign of the civilian Dauphin with only tail similarities remaining. The Z-9 also has a retractable landing gear as opposed to the fixed gear on the civilian Dauphin. It can transport 8 to 10 soldiers to the combat zones, and can also be used for medical evacuation and logistic support.
It has a four-blade main rotor and is powered by two turboshaft engines which are mounted side by side on top of the cabin. The teardrop-shaped body features a tapered boom to the tail fin, a rounded nose and stepped-up cockpit, and a flat bottom.
